Job Duties:
Rules Education and Resource
-Provides research and interpretation responses for all NCAA bylaws and College Sports Commission (CSC ) regulations for coaches, student-athletes, department staff, donors, and outside constituents; - Prepare and present NCAA , CSC , AC, and ECU rules education to coaches, staff, student-athletes, and other groups when necessary; -Formulate and update policies and procedures when necessary; -Serve as a liaison to the NCAA , AC, NIL GO and university departments, including submission of required reports, interpretations and waivers, under the direction of the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance; -Work closely with Life Skills to implement educational initiatives related to Name, Image, and Likeness monitoring and education.
Prospect and Student-Athlete – Department Functions
- Manage eligibility certification and monitoring (initial and continuing); - Oversight of transfer eligibility processes while working directly with the University’s Certifying Officer and Student-Athlete Academic Services to certify transfers; - Oversight of transfer processes for all outgoing student-athletes; - Oversight of ECU admissions and monitoring for all freshmen and transfer prospects; - Oversight of international prospect monitoring processes and communicates I-20/VISA tasks to prospects and coaches; - Oversight of amateurism certification; - Oversight of student-athlete participation reports; - Oversight of Medical Hardship Waivers (including Mental Health Waivers) and Medical Roster Exemptions for all sports; - Assist with monitoring various student-athlete compliance forms and processes; - Assist with monitoring NIL Disclosure Forms and contracts in NIL Go; and - Manage student-athlete records and roster maintenance in the applicable databases.
Communication
-Build quality relationships and work collaboratively and professionally with all 18 sport programs and other athletic department staff including, but not limited to: Pirate Club, Marketing, Operations, Academics, Life Skills, Business Office, Media Relations, Leadership Team, etc.; -Serve as a liaison to the FAR , undergraduate and graduate admissions office, global affairs, registrar’s office, and the NCAA Eligibility Center; -Serve as the Transfer Portal Contact for ECU Athletics and NCAA Eligibility Center Contact; and -Serve as a liaison to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC ).
Other Department Functions -Review and coordinate investigation of known and/or alleged rules violations; -Research and prepare NCAA and Conference waivers; -Coordinate agent registration; -Assist with recruiting monitoring efforts; -Assist with the Compliance Office’s internship program; -Oversight of the Student Manager Review & Approval Process; and -Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education/Experience:
A bachelor’s degree with at least four years of experience with NCAA compliance responsibilities; or an advanced degree and at least two years of experience with NCAA compliance responsibilities;
Demonstrated interpersonal and verbal communication skills;
Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills; and
Technology proficiency including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams, and database systems.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation:
None
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
Master’s degree or higher preferred;
Experience interpreting, researching, and applying NCAA and conference rules and regulations;
Demonstrated experience using NCAA Apps (e.g., LSDBi, Compliance Assistant, RSRO , Transfer Portal), Teamworks, C+R, (or similar program).
Demonstrated ability to gather and analyze data, compile information, and prepare reports and projections;
In-depth knowledge of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA ) eligibility processes and legislation;
Demonstrated ability to mediate conflicts and provide dispute resolution in a fair and objective manner;
Demonstrated experience to manage and oversee confidential information;
Demonstrated planning, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
