Head Men's Basketball Coach

Position Summary

Ferris State University seeks a dynamic and experienced leader to serve as Head Men’s Basketball Coach. The Head Coach will direct and coordinate all aspects of the men’s basketball program, including recruiting, practice planning, student-athlete development, academic monitoring, and full compliance with NCAA, GLIAC, and University policies. This position requires strong leadership, integrity, and the ability to foster a disciplined and motivating team culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and administration of the men’s basketball program.

  • Oversee daily practice planning, game preparation, recruiting strategy, and scholarship allocation.

  • Direct recruiting efforts in compliance with NCAA regulations, including scouting, communication, campus visits, and talent evaluation.

  • Support and monitor student-athlete academic progress and personal development.

  • Manage program budget, expenditures, purchasing, and scholarship processes.

  • Coordinate game scheduling and team travel logistics.

  • Hire, supervise, and evaluate coaching and support staff.

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with alumni, parents, and supporters.

  • Engage in public relations and community outreach initiatives that enhance the University’s visibility and generate revenue.

  • Promote and support University enrollment and retention initiatives.

  • Represent the program at conference meetings, community events, and professional development seminars.

  • Perform additional administrative duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Minimum of five years of effective coaching and recruiting experience at the collegiate, professional, or major high school level.

  • Demonstrated experience in recruiting, player development, and roster management.

  • Thorough knowledge of NCAA, GLIAC, and institutional rules and compliance standards.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural, educational, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

  • Commitment to supporting student-athlete academic and personal success.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to bend, carry, move, reach, twist, balance, climb, drive, lift, push/pull, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive movements as needed. The individual must be able to operate a university or personal vehicle safely in the performance of job duties.
