Athletics Equipment Manager

Iowa State University is seeking an Athletics Equipment Manager to support the daily equipment operations for designated sports and equipment rooms. Reporting to the Director of Equipment Operations, this role oversees equipment inventory, purchasing, budget monitoring, and the full scope of equipment needs for practices, competitions, and visiting teams. Initial sport assignments include: wrestling, swimming/diving, track/field, and cross country, subject to change as needed.

What you’ll do

  • Manage equipment budgets for assigned sports, ensuring accurate tracking of expenditures.

  • Assess needs, research products, and collaborate with coaching staff to determine equipment and apparel specifications in alignment with vendor contracts.

  • Verify and reconcile orders, resolve discrepancies, and maintain an accurate inventory database.

  • Ensure proper fitting and protective equipment standards to support athlete safety and reduce liability.

  • Issue and exchange equipment, oversee locker room and laundry operations, and manage daily laundry collection and delivery.

  • Prepare facilities and locker rooms for practices, competitions, and visiting teams.

  • Maintain and repair equipment to ensure safety and usability.

  • Coordinate packing and transport of equipment for away contests.

  • Hire and supervise student staff.

  • Uphold all University, Big 12 Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing inventory, fitting equipment and apparel, and planning for away competitions for athletics team(s) involving NCAA D1 teams.

  • Experience making buying decisions and ordering team apparel.

  • Experience working with track, cross country, wrestling, or swimming/diving equipment and apparel.

  • AEMA certification.
