Position Summary:
The Head Football Athletic Trainer serves as the liaison between Rice Athletics and the Rice community's allied health professionals, team physicians (including specialty physicians) and clinicians at Houston Methodist Hospital, university counseling services and local/campus emergency medical systems to coordinate and provide the appropriate care for the overall health and well-being of the University's student-athletes. The Head Athletic Trainer works with Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Performance, athletes, athletic staff, community health care providers and other members of the campus and community.
Workplace Requirements:
This position’s hours will be determined by the team’s schedule and will require regular travel to away competitions. In addition, this position will be asked to assist in the set up and running of practices which may require moving equipment weighing up to 50 lbs and spending significant time on one’s feet.
Workplace Location:
This position is exclusively on-site, necessitating all duties to be performed in-person. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.
*Exempt (salaried) positions under FLSA are not eligible for overtime.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree
Three or more (3+) years of related experience
Current Texas State Athletic Training License or Eligible and/or NATABOC Certification
Preferences:
Master’s or other terminal degree
5+ years of high-level Football AT experience
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe
Additional credentials such as FMS, SFMA, PES, CES, BFR, IASTM, Dry Needling, PRI, Physical Therapy, CSCS credentials or equivalent
Essential Functions:
Football Facility Athletic Training Room Director
Supervise and Mentor Football Athletic Training Staff and other staff members as assigned
Football Staff/Sports Medicine Communication
Football/Workout Schedule Coverage
Directs all aspects of student athlete medical care, including scheduling appointments, coordinating rehab, medical records requests, Pre-Participation Physicals, etc.
Runs day to day operations of treatments/rehab for football Sports Medicine
Meetings with FB coaches (daily); injury reports daily
Necessary travel with Football Team for home and away events to provide on-sight medical coverage
Sets Professional Standards
Emergency Action plans and protocols
Sports Medicine Procedural Form
Coordinates Concussion Protocol in conjunction with Assistant AD for Medical Services
Administration and staff supervision at football and others as assigned
CPR and emergency services contact/Rice University PD (RUPD)/Rice EMS (REMS) also to include upkeep of emergency supplies/ordering and maintaining emergency equipment for department and yearly emergency preparedness meeting
Oversee supply ordering for Sports Medicine Department
Oversee Rice Sports Medicine documentation QA/QI utilizing Teamworks EMR
Facilities – maintain and control all therapeutic and modality equipment/needs
Compliance Issues – Liaison hard ship waivers, Medical DQ, etc.
Additional Regional/Event Coverage (AAC/NCAA tournaments, regionals, etc)
Rice University representative to the American Conference – Football
Other duties as assigned
