Job Summary
Tarleton State University invites applications for the position of Senior Associate Athletic Director for Finance and Business Operations. Reporting directly to the Vice President & Director of Athletics, this position serves as the department’s chief financial leader, providing strategic oversight of financial planning, budgeting, and business operations to support long-term sustainability and compliance.
Job Duties
The Senior Associate Athletic Director will:
Provide strategic financial leadership and advise on resource allocation, revenue optimization, expense management, and financial risk.
Lead development and administration of the athletics operating budget, including forecasting, salary projections, and coordination with the University Budget Office.
Oversee financial reporting, reconciliations, and compliance with NCAA, EADA, University, and Texas A&M University System requirements.
Monitor financial activity across multiple funding sources and recommend solutions to ensure fiscal integrity.
Deliver financial analysis, reporting, dashboards, and decision-support tools to leadership.
Provide oversight of business operations including procurement, payroll coordination, personnel funding, and HR-related financial processes.
Serve as liaison to University departments and external partners such as auditors and foundation representatives.
Establish and enhance internal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.
Supervise and develop athletics business operations staff and provide training to coaches and staff on budget and financial processes.
This position also serves as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in athletics business operations, higher education finance, governmental fund accounting, or related financial functions.
Demonstrated experience in budgeting, financial planning, analysis, reporting, and fiscal management processes.
Strong knowledge of NCAA-related financial policies and reporting requirements.
Proven ability to develop and manage complex budgets and implement cost-saving or revenue-enhancement strategies.
Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to translate complex financial data for diverse audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in business, finance, accounting, sport administration, or related field.
CPA, CMA, or similar certification.
Experience in NCAA Division I athletics business operations.
Experience with enterprise financial systems such as Banner or similar platforms.
Experience with NCAA, EADA, or athletics-related financial reporting.
Work Location and Schedule
Location: Stephenville, Texas
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with additional hours as needed
