Classification: Part-Time (Graduate Assistantship) Domestic Students ONLY 
Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience based on the Department scale. 

 

Description: 
Thomas University, an NAIA member (Southern States Athletic Conference) located in Thomasville, Ga, is seeking applicants for the position of Head Junior Varsity & Assistant Soccer Coach. 

Job Summary: 
The successful candidate will be responsible for the coaching and practice planning (skill development and strategy) and the organization and execution of the overall player development plan for the Junior Varsity program, administration, fund raising, student-athlete recruitment and retention for the JV soccer program, as well as assisting the Varsity Coach in the same areas as well as assisting with goalkeeper training. Other job duties as assigned by the Head Soccer Coach or Athletic Director. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

Coaching & Player Development 

  • Assist in planning and conducting practices, training sessions, and conditioning programs. 

  • Provide technical and tactical instruction during practices and competitions. 

  • Support individual player skill development and performance analysis. 

  • Participate in game preparation, scouting reports, and opponent breakdown. 

  • Assist with in-game coaching and sideline management. 

  • Game analysis and scouting development. 

  • Leadership and program management experience. 

Recruiting 

  • Identify and evaluate prospective student-athletes. 

  • Communicate with recruits and families in accordance with institutional and governing body rules (NAIA). 

  • Assist with recruiting visits and campus tours. 

  • Maintain recruiting database and correspondence. 

Administrative Support 

  • Help coordinate team travel, equipment, and scheduling. 

  • Assist with organizing camps, clinics, and fundraising activities. 

  • Monitor academic progress and promote student-athlete success. 

  • Ensure compliance with institutional, conference, and governing body regulations. 

Team & Program Support 

  • Promote a positive team culture aligned with the college’s mission and values. 

  • Support strength and conditioning coordination. 

  • Assist with community outreach and program promotion. 

 

Qualifications 

Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Master’s degree preferred. 

  • Competitive playing experience at the collegiate or higher level (preferred). 

  • Knowledge of soccer tactics, skill development, and game strategy. 

  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills. 

  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required. 

Preferred: 

  • Prior coaching experience (club, high school, or college level). 

  • CPR/AED/First Aid certification. 

  • Experience with video analysis software (Hudl, Wyscout, Veo, etc.). 

 

Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic Director. 

 

Education: 
Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree preferred. 

Experience:  

Two years as an Assistant Coach in high school, junior college or college is preferred.
