
The Naval Academy Athletic Association (NAAA), founded in 1891, is a nonprofit organization whose objective is to "promote, influence, and assist in financing the varsity athletic programs of the midshipmen of the United States Naval Academy" in accordance with the policy of the Superintendent of the Academy. Through an intercollegiate athletics program that is one of the largest in the country, every midshipman is afforded the opportunity to compete in athletics at the Division I level. The emphasis on physical fitness is borne out in the first line of the mission of the U.S. Naval Academy: To develop midshipmen morally, mentally and physically.
Summary
The United States Naval Academy Rugby Program is seeking applications for a full-time senior Assistant Coach position within one of the premier collegiate rugby environments in the United States.
This position will assist with the continued development, organization, and daily operation of a highly competitive Division I rugby program committed to excellence in performance, leadership, player development, and alignment with the mission and standards of the United States Naval Academy.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Enhance the Navy Rugby game model within your area of expertise
Assist with practice planning, training delivery, opposition analysis, and match preparation
Support player development, leadership growth, and daily team culture standards
Recruit academically and athletically qualified student-athletes
Assist with operational and administrative responsibilities across the program
Collaborate closely with the Head Coach and coaching staff to ensure alignment across all areas of the program
Model the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, integrity, and leadership
Qualifications
Experience, Education, & Certification(s)
Bachelor’s degree required
Prior collegiate, academy, professional, or high-performance coaching experience
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Experience coaching attack, backs, defense or breakdown skills strongly preferred
Strong understanding of the modern attacking game and current rugby trends
Ability to recruit academically and athletically qualified student-athletes
Knowledge of and ability to comply with all NCAA, conference, institutional, and governing body regulations
Additional Eligibility Requirements
Must be eligible to work in the United States of America, without sponsorship.
Must be eligible to work on a military installation, including a willingness to submit to a background screen.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
This is an in-person position.
Work Conditions/Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, or move for extended periods during practices, games, and recruiting events.
Capacity to demonstrate physical techniques, drills, and sport-specific skills as needed.
Ability to lift and carry equipment or materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Willingness and ability to travel frequently for recruiting, competitions, and professional development.
Adequate vision, hearing, and speech to communicate effectively with student-athletes, staff, and external audiences.
Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to a variety of weather conditions such as heat, cold, rain, wind, and humidity.
Physical stamina to manage long hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays during the athletic season.
Must possess or be willing to obtain CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.
Travel
As necessary for recruiting & away competitions. This may involve overnight trips.
Travel will be based on the NCAA recruiting calendar.
