Position Summary:

The intercollegiate athletics program is an integral part of the university striving to achieve the same standards of excellence in athletics that exist within academic programs. The program is concerned with the physical and mental welfare of the student and strives to ensure that every athlete has the opportunity to succeed academically and obtain a degree. Sport programs are a vital function of the University at large. 

This position is responsible for the assisting in the successful planning, direction and administration of all aspects of the University’s NCAA Division I Wrestling Program.

Job Duties:

Key Areas of Responsibility
• Work with designated weight classes
• Help head coach identify and recruit academically and athletically qualified student-athletes with outstanding character
• Establish recruiting mailings and schedule
• Transcripts and initial evaluations of PSA’s.
• Scout Opponents
• Build relationships with coaches, parents, alumni, and student-athletes
• Assist Head Coach in conducting practices and overall training plan
• Liaison to strength coach
• Oversee Club program
• Assist in program fundraising
• Oversee student-athletes and assist with financial aid, housing, etc...
• Oversee match day preparations
• Coordinate incoming student-athletes admissions
• Team Retreat and Team bonding exercises
• Assist in Camp, clinic preparations
• Promoting and Marketing via social media markets
• Video editing for scouting/ highlight film/ recruiting film, etc...
• Facility management organization
• Mat moping, etc..
• Oversee Summer training, classes, jobs, etc...
• Self professional development
• Assist head coach in providing a great experience for S/A and assure that S/A’s are progressing towards a degree and/or graduation.
• Other duties as assigned by head coach.

Additional Duties:
• Assist the head coach in devising methods by which the team can achieve success.
• Assist with the establishment and development of the team atmosphere.
• Creates a positive atmosphere for the successful recruitment of student-athletes.
• Promotion of community involvement by all team personnel
• Take on additional responsibilities delegated by the head coach in order to be exposed to head coaching responsibilities not normally assigned the assistant coach in order to prepare for advancement in the profession

The Individual sport program:
• Contributes to the visibility and exposure of the institution to the community at large on a (near) daily basis
• Facilitates the entire educational experience of the participant and at the same time contributes to the development of players, teachers, coaches, and trainers
• Capitalizes and enhances alumni, family and friends willingness to contribute to the support of individual programs, the entire athletic program, and the institution at large through corporate sponsorship programs, endowments, and gifting
• Highlights the academic successes of the athlete as compatible with athletic success
• Establishes the opportunity for personal growth and development of the individual within an organized team structure that imitates society at large
• Contributes to the recruitment and retention of students thus benefiting the university
• Contributes to the university’s goal of the recruitment and retention of qualified minority students

• Discussion and advisement
C. Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing & Promotions-cyclic interaction
• Discussion on Wrestling promotional events and activities
D. Asst. Director for Media Relations – weekly interaction (varies dependent upon season)
• Develop and provide input for media guides
• Provide pertinent information for press release on:

E. Director of Student-Athlete Academic Support -daily
• Provide student information for academic monitoring

• Class loads
• Grade reports
F. Facilities/Ticket Manager - weekly
• Facility scheduling
• Facility set up for competitive events
• Equipment repair
G. Equipment Manager-daily
• Provide team rosters for verification of team membership
• Checks student certification/clearance for practice
• Orders uniforms and practice gear
• Disseminates travel gear and bags for road trips
• Disseminates playing and practice apparel on a daily basis
• Does laundry on a daily basis for players throughout year.
H. Athletic Trainers-daily
• Coordinate rehabilitation therapy
• Performs daily training needs per individual
• Provides support personnel on road trips
• Provides support staff for home competitions and practice
• Provides support staff for visiting teams, practice and competition
• Staffs the summer camps and clinics program
I. Business Office and Admin I and II classified staff members-daily interaction
• Ordering equipment, securing DPOs, IMOs, POs
• Securing official function forms
• Expense reimbursement
• Leave records
• Budget questions and paperwork accountability
• Travel requests, reimbursements and travel advances
• Camps and clinics
• Hiring procedures and paperwork
• Enhancement Accounts
J. Conference and Scheduling office / Dormitory and Food Service Programs
• Work closely during the spring and summer months on the UNC summer camp and clinic program several times per week.
• Work closely with scheduling on pre-season camp.
K. Financial Aids Office
• Work with Director on Scholarships for athletic grant in aid-occasionally
• Seek counselor for student recruits through financial aid personnel
• Utilize financial aid counselors through the Visitor Center
L. During recruit visitations we seek appointments with Deans, faculty and advisors from all of the various departments on campus.
M. Visitor Center and Admissions
• Schedule van tours frequently during fall and winter months.
• Utilize counselors for providing information to recruits and families regarding the admissions process
• Seek assistance in determining status of incoming applicants

Outside the University: 
A. Parents of potential students – many different parents on many different occasions.
B. Students: hundreds of students over the course of a year.
C. Coaches: coaches from various high schools, clubs, junior colleges-both in and out of state- seeking information on the University and camps/clinics.
D. Equipment vendors:
E. Various business for fund raising purposes: once or twice per year
F. Coaches Association- provides information and documentation on our institution and athletes

FISCAL ACCOUNTABILITY
The Assistant Coach assists the Head Coach in being accountable for the financial resources directly allocated to their sport program. The Assistant Coach also assists with the responsibility for multiple accounts related to the program. The Assistant Coach assists with this area to familiarize them and to assist the Head Coach.
Those accounts include:
1. Operating Account
2. Summer Camp Account
3. Enhancement and Foundation Accounts

Minimum Qualifications:

Education / Experience / Certification(s):
1. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
2. Combination of Division I collegiate wrestling/coaching experience preferred. Knowledge of NCAA rules required.
3. Required (may obtain and maintain immediately following hire): CPR/First Aid, NCAA Rules and Regulations certification.
