Director, Athletics Video Production

Position Summary

The Director of Athletics Video Production is responsible for creating, producing, and distributing high-quality video content across all platforms for the UIU Athletics Department. This position plays a central role in storytelling, brand building, fan engagement, donor relations, and live event production. The Director will manage a small staff of student workers, operate live-streaming and videoboard systems, and serve as the primary creative force behind UIU Athletics video content for all 16 sports programs. This position reports directly to the Assistant AD for Sports Communication.

 

Position Responsibilities

Creative Content and Social Media

  • Conceptualize, produce, and edit engaging short-form and long-form video content for all athletics social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, X/Twitter, YouTube, Facebook)

  • Stay current on social media trends, platform algorithms, and emerging content formats to maximize audience engagement

  • Develop and execute a content calendar in collaboration with the Athletics Communications staff

  • Produce team intro/hype videos, highlight reels, and feature stories for all 16 sports programs

  • Create postgame highlight packages with coach and student-athlete interviews following each home sporting event

  • Coordinate with coaches and student-athletes for weekly fan engagement videos

  • Assist in media day production — creating high-quality content for hype videos, promotional materials, and digital content throughout the season

  • Maintain and grow the UIU Athletics YouTube channel and coordinate video efforts across all social platforms

  • Assist the department with creative ideation for video concepts

  • Plan, script, and draft each piece to ensure efficient use of time; all plans/drafts must be approved prior to recording

  • Release content at planned times to best capture audience engagement based on platform best practices

Donor, Sponsor, and Stakeholder Video

  • Plan, script, and produce professional-quality interviews and feature videos for donor groups, alumni relations, and fundraising campaigns

  • Produce exclusive videos for donors and conduct/produce coach interviews for web and donor consumption

  • Collaborate with Athletics External Operations staff to support donor stewardship and engagement through video storytelling

  • Local travel for sponsorship visits is a possibility

  • Represent the Athletics Department professionally in all production interactions with external stakeholders

Live Streaming and Broadcast

  • Operate and manage live streaming production using Production Truck and HUDL (Blueframe/vCloud) platforms

  • Stream to the GLVC Sports Network via Production Truck

  • Produce high-quality gameday webcasts

  • Operate NewTek (TriCaster and 3Play) live video production systems

  • Assist in producing a video replay iPad system for referees during events with replay requirements through Production Truck and Remote Truck

  • Uphold all conference and department branding guidelines during broadcasts

  • Serve as webcast producer for UIU Commencement and any hosted commencement ceremonies

Videoboard and Scoreboard Operations

  • Manage all videoboard content and live operations at the stadium and gymnasium

  • Execute in-game scripts, graphics packages, and video elements for home events

  • Create high-quality and modern graphic assets for use on videoboards during events

  • Assist in producing video packages for timeouts, halftime, and in-game announcements

  • Ensure all content is loaded, tested, and ready a minimum of one hour prior to each home contest

  • Coordinate with game operations staff to ensure seamless in-game production

Student Staff Management

  • Recruit, hire, train, and schedule a staff of student camera operators, videoboard operators, and broadcast technicians

  • Prioritize hiring of work study (UIU Federal and International) students for these positions

  • Build seasonal staffing schedules in advance of each sports season

  • Provide ongoing, proactive training and development in camera operation, broadcast techniques, and production workflows

  • Ensure all payroll paperwork is completed prior to work taking place, and hours are submitted and approved on time

  • Address absenteeism among student workers promptly and appropriately
     

Equipment & Facility Management

  • Maintain inventory and perform regular health checks on all A/V and production equipment

  • Experienced operation and general maintenance of video cameras

  • Proficient with video/photography lighting setups, including green screen/chroma key effects

  • Maintain knowledge of digital video archiving best practices

  • Keep production office spaces and gameday production areas clean, organized, and game-ready

  • Proactively identify equipment needs and make recommendations for upgrades or replacements

 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcasting, Video Production, Communications, or a related field

  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience in athletic video production, or a combination of non-athletic video production experience

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator) — required

  • Experience with NewTek (TriCaster and 3Play) live video production systems

  • Experience with Production Truck and Hudl vCloud streaming platforms

  • Experienced operation and general maintenance of video cameras

  • Proficient with video/photography lighting setups, including green screen/chroma key

  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under a deadline

  • Strong collaborative communication skills with department staff, university staff, coaches, and student-athletes

  • Ability to effectively communicate stories and insight through on-camera interviews with student-athletes and/or coaches

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience in a collegiate athletics environment

  • Familiarity with GLVC conference branding and broadcast standards

  • Experience supervising student employees or part-time staff

  • Knowledge of digital video archiving systems
