Assistant Coach - Strength and Conditioning

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Assist in the supervision and management of the day-to-day operations of the Olympic Sport Strength and Conditioning program. Direct and supervise the management of the Strength and Conditioning program for the assigned sports. Coordinate and prepare a comprehensive program, teach, demonstrate, and supervise proper techniques for strength, speed, conditioning, and flexibility exercises within the program, and maintain a safe and positive training environment.

  • Effectively prepare student-athletes for each game and each season with dedication so as to assist the student-athletes to attain their maximum level of athletic performance and to successfully compete against major college competition.

  • Work closely with medical and athletic training staff to integrate injured athletes safely and effectively into the strength and conditioning program, and assist in the coordinated efforts to maximize participation while minimizing risk and injury. Offer suggestions regarding workouts, exercises, and periodization that balance risk-reward parameters in the pursuit of performance excellence.

  • Have a working knowledge of, and maintain strict compliance with the rules and regulations governing the recruitment of student athletes, and intercollegiate athletic competition per University, MAC, and NCAA rules and regulations. Effectively assist in the preparation of student-athletes for each game and each season with dedication so as to assist the student-athletes to attain their maximum level of athletic performance and to successfully compete against major college competition.

  • Provide guidance and serve as a primary resource for student-athletes regarding performance nutrition information. Working closely with the Senior Associate AD for Medical/Support service, the athletic training staff, and the team physician staff; review student-athlete choices and requests for information regarding nutrition and nutritional supplements, and offer guidance consistent with NCAA regulations, University policy, department policy, and NCAA and department guidelines for NCAA and institutional drug testing programs. Assist in organizing and managing team nutrition, including recovery drinks, hydration needs, and post workout snacks. Offer input regarding performance nutrition in the planning of team-meal food choices, caloric needs, and in-game nutrition.

  • Work in cooperation with, and support of, the University’s administrators and faculty to ensure the quality of a well-rounded student-athlete experience resulting in student athletes’ academic requirements being satisfied, leading to graduation. Be fair, sympathetic and protective of the student athletes while upholding academic and moral integrity.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

  • Two years’ relevant strength coaching experience.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in recruiting, training, coaching, evaluating, and supervising student athletes to attain their maximum level of academic and athletic performance and to compete successfully against major college competition in a quality program.

  • NSCA Certified Strength Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or CSCCA Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Science, or Sports Administration.

  • Three years’ relevant strength coaching experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Heavy work frequently working in difficult work positions or with physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials greater than 50 pounds.

  • Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.

  • Regular night, evening, and weekend practices and competitions are part of this position.
