
Job Purposes:
The Assistant Athletic Director for Media & Creative Strategy provides leadership for the development, execution, and management of Wright State Athletics’ creative content, digital communications, social media presence, and brand strategy. Reporting to the Deputy Athletic Director for Engagement and Partnerships, this position is responsible for enhancing the visibility, reputation, and engagement of Wright State Athletics through strategic storytelling, visual communications, and fan-focused content initiatives.
The Assistant Athletic Director serves as the department’s lead creative and digital communications professional, overseeing content planning, brand management, social media strategy, and multimedia production efforts that support student-athlete storytelling, ticket sales, fan engagement, fundraising, recruiting, and corporate partnerships.
This position works closely with University Marketing & Communications to ensure athletics messaging, visual identity, and communications efforts align with institutional branding standards and strategic priorities while maintaining a distinctive and engaging athletics presence.
The Assistant Athletic Director supervises the Multimedia Coordinator and student staff and is responsible for developing efficient content workflows, establishing creative standards, and ensuring consistent execution across all athletics communication channels.
Essential Functions and percent of time:
Brand Management, Content Strategy & Communications – (30%)
Lead the planning and execution of Wright State Athletics’ digital content and brand strategy.
Develop and maintain departmental content calendars that align with athletics priorities, institutional initiatives, and key annual events.
Establish and maintain creative standards, messaging guidelines, and visual identity practices across athletics platforms.
Work collaboratively with University Marketing & Communications to ensure consistency in branding, messaging, crisis communications, and institutional storytelling.
Identify opportunities to promote student-athletes, coaches, programs, alumni, and athletics accomplishments through coordinated communication efforts.
Serve as a key communications and branding resource for athletics administrators, coaches, and campus partners.
Creative Content Development & Production – (25%)
Lead the creation and production of high-quality digital content, including video features, promotional campaigns, photography, graphic design, social media content, and storytelling initiatives.
Provide creative direction and editorial oversight for all content produced by athletics communications and creative staff.
Personally create and edit content as needed to support departmental priorities and time-sensitive projects.
Develop content templates, production workflows, and asset management processes that promote efficiency and consistency.
Oversee the department’s digital asset library, ensuring proper organization and accessibility of photography, video, and brand resources.
Social Media & Digital Engagement – (20%)
Direct the strategic use of athletics social media channels to increase fan engagement, institutional visibility, and community awareness.
Monitor digital analytics and audience engagement data to inform content decisions and improve performance.
Develop platform-specific content strategies that support athletics goals while maintaining consistent brand standards.
Coordinate social media coverage of athletics events, championships, student-athlete achievements, and institutional initiatives.
Collaborate with Athletics Communications staff to ensure timely promotion of results, news, and department announcements.
Leadership, Staff Supervision & Department Collaboration – (15%)
Supervise, mentor, and evaluate the Multimedia Coordinator, student employees, interns, and other assigned staff.
Establish clear expectations, workflows, production schedules, and quality standards for creative services operations.
Collaborate with athletics communications, marketing, ticket sales, development, corporate partnerships, and event management staff to support departmental goals.
Serve as a creative resource for coaches and sports programs while balancing department-wide priorities.
Assist in developing annual creative services goals, budgets, equipment needs, and operational plans.
Revenue Generation, Fan Engagement & Gameday Experience – (10%)
Develop creative content and campaigns that support ticket sales, fundraising initiatives, community engagement, and corporate partnership activation.
Collaborate with marketing and event operations staff to enhance the fan experience through video board content, promotional graphics, team introductions, and in-game features.
Support major athletics events, donor functions, community outreach initiatives, and special projects.
Provide creative support for sponsorship fulfillment and promotional opportunities that increase visibility for athletics partners.
